Back in the late ’80’s, working as successful sales professionals and system engineers, a few members of our team used to celebrate our wins with a bottle of champagne and caviar at a local wine bar in Wigmore Street in London.
When other colleagues and customers heard of this and wanted to join us, we decided to set up CHAPS, the Champagne Appreciation Society.
Within a year, we had close to 700 members from across the board – IBMers, customers, partners – with our own membership cards and club ties.
Several times a year, we used to have a charity ball at which we not only enjoyed champagne, good food and good company but raised serious amounts of money for charity.
Soon, our sponsor at the time – Moet & Chandon – recognised our achievements and invited us to their HQ for a special event.
One of our best experiences in life for us and around 50 of our colleagues and associates, has been a visit to the champagne region as special guests of Moet & Chandon and House of Ruinart for a silver service dinner at their HQ as members of Chaps.
The day started with an introductory presentation and masterclass on champagne followed by a tour of the impressive grounds of Moet & Chandon incorporating the workshops of Dom Perignon, Queen Mother’s vines planted in the gardens and a visit to the House of Ruinart cellars.
In the gala evening the same day, we were spoilt with a tour of the cellars, by being walked pass 500,000 bottles of Dom Perignon in part of the total 28Km length of cellars of Moet & Chandon, followed by a great welcome by servers, a seven course dinner with seven types of champagne with each course.
That hospitality and experience has made such an impact on us that, after many years, we decided to rekindle the idea in a different and larger scale with a unique concept, ChapsWorld, the world of the Champagne Appreciation Society.
Good food, good champagne and good company enrich our lives beyond measure. However, most of us do not know who to thank for the inestimable pleasures of champagne and good living although we all and hopefully try our best to help when we can.
Our vision and USP is to raise money for charities from Champagne sales while providing our customers with a complete champagne experience.
